Hello, I'm Emilly!
Welcome to Baking Whiz! I'm thrilled you've found your way to my little corner of the internet where flour, sugar, and butter come together to create something magical.
You ready to know about me ? Let us get started !!
My Baking Journey
My love affair with baking began in my grandmother's kitchen in upstate New York. I was barely tall enough to reach the counter, standing on a rickety step stool while she patiently taught me how to measure flour properly and the importance of room temperature butter. Those chocolate chip cookies we made together—crisp on the edges, chewy in the center—were my first taste of the joy that baking brings.
What started as weekend activities with Grandma evolved into a lifelong passion. Through college, while studying communications, I became the unofficial baker for every study group and campus event. My tiny apartment kitchen became a test lab where I experimented with everything from classic French pastries to innovative fusion desserts.
After graduating, I spent several years working in marketing while baking remained my creative outlet and stress reliever. In 2020, when the world slowed down, my baking accelerated. I found myself documenting recipes, photographing my creations, and sharing techniques with friends who suddenly found themselves with time to bake. That's when Baking Whiz was born.
Why I Created Baking Whiz
I created this blog with one mission: to make baking accessible, enjoyable, and successful for everyone—whether you're a complete beginner or looking to refine your skills.
Too often, I found that baking recipes online either:
- Lacked crucial details that make or break a recipe
- Didn't explain the "why" behind important techniques
- Weren't thoroughly tested in a home kitchen
- Intimidated rather than inspired new bakers
Baking Whiz is my answer to these problems. Here, every recipe is meticulously tested (usually multiple times), every technique is explained, and every question is welcomed. I believe baking should bring joy, not stress, and I'm committed to guiding you through each recipe with the same patience my grandmother showed me.
My Baking Philosophy
My approach to baking centers around a few core principles:
Understanding trumps memorization. When you understand why ingredients interact the way they do, you become a more confident, adaptable baker.
Precision matters. Baking is both an art and a science. Measuring accurately and following techniques properly gives you a reliable foundation.
But perfection isn't the goal. Some of my favorite creations have come from happy accidents and experiments gone wonderfully wrong.
Baking is meant to be shared. Whether it's the process or the final product, baking creates connections between people.
Behind the Scenes
When I'm not covered in flour or writing about cake, you might find me:
- Exploring farmers markets for seasonal inspiration
- Testing kitchen gadgets (my kitchen drawers are bursting!)
- Taking food photography classes to improve my skills
- Walking through New York City neighborhoods in search of hidden bakeries
- Reading cookbooks like novels (my collection has officially outgrown my bookshelf)
I live in New York with my sourdough starter (named Breadley Cooper) and an ever-growing collection of vintage mixing bowls. My kitchen is small but mighty, proving you don't need a professional setup to create amazing baked goods.
My Promise to You
Every recipe on Baking Whiz is:
- Tested multiple times in a home kitchen
- Written with clear, detailed instructions

I promise to respond to your questions, value your feedback, and continue learning alongside you. Baking is a journey without a final destination, and I'm honored to be walking this path with you.
