Equipment

  • 1 Large mixing bowl or stand mixer for mixing dough
  • 1 9x13-inch baking pan or baking sheet
  • 1 Pastry brush for butter
  • 1 Thermometer to check milk temp
  • 1 Kitchen towel or plastic wrap to cover dough

Ingredients

Roll Dough

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour may need extra for kneading
  • 1 cup warm milk about 110°F
  • 2 ¼ teaspoon active dry yeast or instant yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar divided
  • 2 tablespoon honey for flavor and softness
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 4 tablespoon butter melted, plus more for brushing
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Honey Butter

  • ½ cup butter softened
  • 2 tablespoon honey
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  • Add remaining sugar, honey, eggs, melted butter, and salt. Gradually mix in flour until a soft dough forms. Knead 8–10 minutes until smooth.
  • Cover bowl and let dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down dough and roll to ½-inch thickness. Cut into 12–16 squares and place on a greased 9x13 pan. Cover and let rest 10 minutes.
  • Let shaped rolls rise again until puffy, about 30–45 minutes.
  • Bake in a preheated 350°F (175°C) oven for 15–18 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Immediately brush warm rolls with melted butter for a glossy finish.
  • Whip softened butter, honey, cinnamon, and powdered sugar together until smooth and fluffy. Serve with warm rolls.

Notes

For the best flavor, use high-quality honey and real butter. Rolls can be frozen after baking and reheated before serving.
