Ingredients

Pastry Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup cold unsalted butter cut into cubes
  • 4–6 tablespoon ice water add gradually

Apple Filling

  • 4 medium apples peeled, cored, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoon granulated sugar for apple mixture
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoon unsalted butter for dotting on apples
  • 2 tablespoon apricot jam or apple jelly optional, for glaze
  • 1 tablespoon water to thin the glaze

Instructions

  • Mix flour, sugar, and salt; cut in butter; add ice water.
  • Wrap and refrigerate for 30 mins.
  • Toss sliced apples with sugar, lemon juice, spices, cornstarch.
  • Roll out dough into rounds.
  • Layer apples in a spiral; fold edges over.
  • Place cold butter cubes on apples.
  • Bake at 375°F for 35–40 minutes.
  • Optional: brush with warmed apricot jam.
  • Cool slightly and serve warm or at room temp.
