  • 1 12-cup muffin tin Standard size
  • 2 Mixing bowls One large, one medium
  • 1 Whisk or hand mixer For batter
  • 1 Wire cooling rack For cooling muffins
  • 1 Pastry brush Optional, for butter coating
  • 1 Measuring cups and spoons Standard set
  • 2 Small bowls For butter and cinnamon sugar

Ingredients

Batter

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 ½ teaspoon Baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • ¼ teaspoon Ground nutmeg Fresh grated preferred
  • ½ cup Butter Melted
  • 1 large Egg Room temperature
  • ¾ cup Milk or buttermilk Buttermilk preferred
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Topping

  • ½ cup Butter For coating, melted
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon For coating
  • ½ cup Sugar For coating

Instructions

  • Mix the dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl: flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease the muffin tin.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together melted butter, egg, milk or buttermilk, and vanilla extract. Pour into dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Fill each muffin cup about ¾ full with batter.
  • Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let muffins cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  • Melt the butter for coating in a small bowl.
  • In another small bowl, mix the cinnamon and sugar for coating.
  • Dip each warm muffin in melted butter, then roll in cinnamon sugar until coated.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

These are best served warm, but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat slightly before serving.
